First, I have to warn my religious readers that this post is serious and it tackles on very sensitive topics. My views often ignite feuds and most believers find them offending. So if you are a believer, I suggest that you skip this entry.
As as kid, I was raised a Catholic. I was no altar boy but I went to a Catholic school and was taught about Jesus Christ and all that stuff. I wouldnapos;t say my family was religious as my momapos;s attempts to make us good Catholics often fail. We hardly attended mass and on the few occasions that we did, we were often late. But still, I assimilated most of what was taught in my religion classes and sometimes I was even guilty of praying at night. I donapos;t know when it all started but I started to stop believing. Perhaps atheism is a consequence of higher education for those languid-faithfuls like me.
So what are my beliefs? I believe that religion is the thing of the past. It was forgivable for us to believe in such silly and fatuous dogmata back when we thought that the world was flat. But at this age of science that we are now living at, it is less forgivable. Does this make me a bad person? I sure donapos;t think so.
I am ignorant to other religions, so I can only comment on Christianity. I may not believe the central basis of Christianity, which is: Christ is the son of God, and he was sent down to Earth for manapos;s salvation, but I admire Christapos;s teachings. I love Christapos;s philosophy actually, which (for me) is:
"Love others as you love yourself."
Ainapos;t it so 70apos;s? I think Jesus was the first hippie. Anyway, I think we should just focus on living up to that teaching. It sickens me to see people who claim to be God-fearing and yet they often neglect their brothers and sisters. I also hate it that religion further separates the believers from the non-believers, or the believers those with other beliefs. I have often observed religious people look down on those who donapos;t share the same beliefs as them. This is something that was taught to us.... We were given the impression that pagans are disgusting people and we should not associate ourselves with them.
Anyway, I donapos;t think we should abolish Religion. I just think that Religion should modernize and keep up with the times. One example, the churchapos;s stand against birth control.
Iapos;m going to stop there because itapos;s scrums time and I donapos;t feel like continuing this entry anymore.
